How to unlock an auto radio by Tech2 scan tool

I have successfully unlocked the radio on my Chevy TrailBlazer with a clone GM Tech2 scan tool from China yesterday. Here I would like to share the procedure.

If you also like to unlock the radio, please complete the following procedure, using the Tech2 scanner, in order to properly set up communication:

Connect Tech2 to the OBD port of the vehicle. When the screen of the tool illuminates, it means the tool hooks up with the car. Then you can start the process:

1. Go to the main menu and select: Diagnostics.

2. Select Vehicle Identification and then the following options:
– Model Year
– LD Trk, MPV, Incomplete

3. At the System Selection Menu screen, select: Body

4. At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the following:
– Appropriate model
– Appropriate Air Conditioning
– Navigation Radio

5. Select: Navigation Radio.

6. Select: Special Functions.

7. Select: VIN Relearn.

8. Then you will get a message: “Do you want to clear radio theft information?”

9. To begin clearing, press the soft touch key on the top right of the scan tool. The scan tool will display “Clearing Radio Theft in Progress.”

10. Press EXIT on the scan tool and cycle the ignition.

Done. Disconnect Tech ii scanner from the car.

How to used Tech2 scanner turn off SAAB day running lights ?

I have got a clone GM tech2 after hearing it is less than $500 and is able to do diagnosis and coding. Used it to reset day running light on my 2004 SAAB the other day. Worked as it should be. I saw some forum members are looking for a way to complete turn off the DRLs and would like to share a simple guide about this with the Tech 2 scanner.

GM Tech2 scanner for GM and SAAB
32MB PCMCIA Card for Tech2
A SAAB car (Here take my daughters 2004 SAAB for example)

How to:

Hook up GM Tech2 scan tool to the OBD2 port in your car. The scanner does not need software installation and can be used directly after connecting it to your car.

Insert 32MB card into Tech2
Run Tech2 diagnostic tool
Go to Diagnostic Mode
Select Diag >2003 >9-3 Sport Select Body>Exterior Lighting and Horn
Low beam adjustments
F0. Auto Low Beam also in Pos 0
Change setting to NO
Wait several seconds until the lights flicker and go out
Exit
Go to Fog Lights Front
Change to Position 1 & 2 ROW (Rest of World) Program and click Exit when finished.

After the programming, you will get:

Pos 0 > No Lights
Pos1 > Fogs and 5 Watt Headlamp / Parking Light
Pos3 > Low Beam, High Beam, Manual Control of Fogs

This process takes about 5 minutes. You can also turn the lights on following this process.

How to bleed ABS brake systems by gm tech2

Almost all modern vehicles have ABS system or anti-lock brake system on their cars and trucks. ABS brakes, like any other brakes which need regular maintenance including bleeding. Different vehicle models enjoys similar way of bleeding ABS systems are similar among different vehicles, but GM Tech2 scanner is specially designed for GM vehicle models.

The text below gives an instruction on how to bleed the ABS system with GM Tech 2 scan tool.

Follow the following instructions:

1) Raise your car into a properly support position
2) Disassemble all 4 tires and wheel assemblies
3) Check the brake system for leaks and visual damage. If the situation is damage or have to be get it done and how to use the device to make a possible position. Replace or repair as needed.
4) Check the battery state of charge (you may refer here )

5) Install GM Tech2 scan tool software. (Download related PDF manual on  fobdii.com webpage)
6) Turn the ignition to ON position with the engine OFF
7) Connect the GM Tech2 scanner into the OBD diagnostic socket
8) Select “Special Functions”>> “Automated Bleed”
9) Bleed the base brake system.
10) Follow the Tech2 scanner screen instructions until the desired brake pedal height is achieved.

NOTE:
If the bleed procedure fails, do as following:
If a DTC is detected, select “Diagnostic Trouble Code” to clear DTCs. If the brake pedal eels spongy, repeat the conventional brake bleed procedure again.

11) When the desired brake pedal height is achieved, press the brake pedal to check the firmness.
12) Unplug the GM Tech2 scanner from the OBD socket
13) Install the 4 tires and wheel assemblies
14) Check the brake fluid level and the firmness of pedal again

An industry change in protocol from OBD II to Controller Area Network (CAN) has begun. In order to perform diagnostics on a vehicle that uses the CAN interface; you will need the Tech 2 Flash and a CAN diagnostic interface module. The module connects between the Tech 2 Flashs diagnostic link cable and the OBD adapter. Once the module is connected, it can be used on all GM vehicle applications,even those vehicles using other platforms such as OBD I and OBD II.

The CANdi (Controller Area Network Diagnostic Interface) is an in-line cable module that works with existing Tech 2 components including the VCI, cables and adapters.

CANdi module is fully compatible with current and past Tech 2 software. The module powers up in a way that makes it transparent to the user. This allows the existing Tech 2 software to be used with no changes when the CANdi module is installed. If a vehicle requires the use of a CANdi module, the Tech 2 clone will enable features specific to the module.

A self test will help to check well Candi module is well connected or not. Here is the step-by-step instruction on how to do Teh2 candi interface self test.

1) Connect CANdi interface to the vehicle via 12 PIN ALDL connector

2) Run and complete all GM tech 2 scanner stand-alone self-test. Disconnect CANdi interface when run Tech2 scan tool self test.

3) Run VCI self test. If the VCI self-test fails, replace VCI module. Disconnect CANdi module when run VCI self test

4) Connect the CANdi module to an existing VCI module via DLC cable, and connect VCI module with vehicle. Make sure there is good connection between scanner and vehicle. Verify that the LED on the CANdi module is flashing.

5) After well connected with vehicle and Tech2 main unit, power up the GM Tech2 scan tool, the scanner is flashing. Software update procedure will display on the screen.

6) Browse to “Tool Options” menu, select “F9 CANdi Diagnostics” option

7) Two options available under CANdi Diagnostics menu: POST Test and Self Test

8) First run a POST Test. The CANdi POST result is used to determine if the module has any problems during the software upgrade or start-up sequence.

If the CANdi module is connected and an error screen occurs, disconnect the CANdi module from the Tech 2 and perform the test again.

How To solved “not boot up” for Tech2 DC to DC converter

This is how to rework GM Tech2 clone PCB to make Tech2 scan tool clone boot up for use.

– Problem

Tech II clone not boot up (not turn on)

– Reason

The issue usually results from the DC to DC converter

This converter is a common internal component for the device GM TECH II

originally these come equipped with the “Meanwell SKE10A-05VT” and “BTCPower 4BE-01T-02”

you cannot longer purchase these items because they are not being manufactured anymore

You actually can find the “Meanwell SKE10A-05” but missing the “VT” and also missing 1 pin for the soldering points.

BEWARE this model dc to dc converter WILL NOT WORK

It may help you power on your device, but the power button among other programming features won’t work.

– Solution worked!

To replace DC to DC converter can avoid unpleasant surprises.

REC10-1205S/H2/M has a 6 pin connections, “Meanwell SKE10A-05VT” and “BTCPower 4BE-01T-02” have a 5 pin connections, is it not a problem when you change the component.

So, sort this out.

How To sovle VCM2 firmware is newer than IDS software ?

I just get VCM2 and instaled IDS v86 and when I start sw error I get that VCM firmware is newer then IDS sw.

How to do?

Press and hold reset button after that insert usb to pc still hold reset button when you will hear beep after that release reset button.

If it does not works….

Try to use this Ford VCM II Software setup v2.1.119.3. I have Chinese clone Ford VCM II and working with Ford IDS v86, Mazda IDS v91 and with JLR SDD v138 with this software setup too. My VCM have no problem with update downgrade I had installed Ford IDS v95 after that v86 and no problem update downgrade. When I installed JLR SDD v138 I had to update VCM to this version and after that was not functional with Ford IDS v86 after installing this setup was all functional.

When I want update or downgrade VCM I have to only connect VCM with PC not need connect VCM to OBD. I have installed this softwares on VMware each separately. Each with new clean windows xp. I have not installed newest Ford IDS v95 for example because I don`t know how to freeze system still after 5 days license k.o.  But I had installed this new version Ford v95 and worked this new software update without problem. I install V94 and after that IDS said me is new version v95 I downloaded it and it worked.

I am using V94, and I was told I need OSCH VCI MAMAGER 2.1.119.3, NOT 2.1.19.19

you need to press the reset button on the vcmII WHILE CONNECTED TO 12V, then when you see all lights flash at once on the vcmii, you put to usb , wait for beep release reset button on VCMII and start VCI MANAGER.

BUTTONS IN VCI MAAGER SHOULD COME ALIVE BUT YOU NEED TO DO IT WITH VERSION 2.1.119.3

SO IN ids 94, you can go to program and features and uninstall version 2.1.119.19 , reboot and install 2.1.119.3

to install MAZDA IDS With ford VCMII

I downgrade my vcm2 firmware to work with Ford IDS v86, and now ford is ok for me.
I followed a youtube video and I installed (on free IDS PC) Mazda IDS v88 (because I readed that v88 will work with same firmware as ford v86) . Changed Bosch VCI manager files from ford into mazda and now when start vcm manager ask me to update to newer version , but I not wanna update and skip that.
When start Mazda IDS also told me that must update, so which version of mazda will work with same ford v86 fw? Must I search for Mazda v86??

Note: the version software is unimportant , its the ETAS version that matters .

you use the SAME one across all JLR, MAZDA, FORD.

IF ORIGINAL VCMII YOU CAN USE 2.1.119.19

If clone Ford VCMII, USE that etas version for your FORD, MAZDA, and JLR
